About Stuart R. Rose, MD, FACEP
portraitDr. Stuart Rose knows a lot about some very strange things. He knows the risk-levels of cutaneous leishmaniasis in the Middle East. He knows which African countries lie within the “meningitis belt.” He knows how to pronounce onchocerciasis – a particularly nasty black-fly borne infection found on three continents.
Dr. Rose is internationally known in the field of travel medicine, the specialty of health and travel safety.
He’s the creator, author and editor of the International Travel Health Guide, a comprehensive resource for all types of travelers, founder of Travel Medicine, Inc., a company that specializes in products and information for all types of travelers, including those attracted to extreme and alternative trips, and founder and Medical Director of the Travel Medicine Center of Western Massachusetts.
But his mission is not to wow audiences with nine-syllable diseases and factoids about little-known ailments. Rather, Dr. Rose is on a life-long quest to make the traveling public more aware of travel medicine, and the often simple ways they can keep themselves healthy and safe in the harshest environments and the most remote of outposts.

“When I was a medical student working in Tanzania with the Masai, I became fascinated with travel and tropical medicine. I saw many exotic diseases rarely encountered in the U.S. In the 1980s, I wrote the first edition of my book, the International Travel Health Guide and also founded Travel Medicine, Inc. Today, my company and our travel clinic provide you with the essential information and protection you need for a safe trip, even to the farthest corners of
the Earth.”

Dr. RoseDr. Stuart Rose is a graduate of Amherst College and Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is board certified in both internal medicine and emergency medicine and is Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Tufts University, a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, and a member of the International Society of Travel Medicine.

In addition to directing The Travel Medicine Center of Western Massachusetts, Dr. Rose is attending physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Noble Hospital in Westfield.
